“very unsteady in its lane”: Laura Perry Behind the Wheel
Laura Perry’s ethical conflicts of interest and civil rights abuses have worsened as she campaigns for the District 31 office of the Michigan State Legislature.
Introduction) Collecting Endorsements from Fascists: The most corrupt government officials in Monroe are the most enthusiastic supporters of Laura Perry’s campaign.
Part 1) No One Can Serve Three Masters: Laura Perry has failed to maintain ethical boundaries between her three roles: 1) As a Republican Party official and candidate for state lawmaker to have power over business regulations and public school funding; 2) As the owner of a printing business of unlicensed school branded merchandise, that is also a vendor to political campaigns and to various government organizations; 3) As a high school official with obligations toward the best interests of students and the school community.
Part 2) Three Fingers Pointing Back: Perry led accusatory attacks on public schools in Monroe, including an alleged extortion conspiracy against Monroe County Community College, with coercive demands that the college violate civil rights laws. Then Perry led a targeted sexual harassment campaign against one high school student.

“very unsteady in its lane”: Laura Perry Behind the Wheel
Introduction) Collecting Endorsements from Fascists:
Photo Exhibit: MAGA lawmakers snuffing out birds to help Laura Perry become a lawmaker
For over a year, Tim Walberg has enthusiastically stumped for, hosted fundraisers for, donated $1,000 to, and endorsed Laura Perry as the new candidate for State Representative (HD-31). Walberg has posed in photos wearing Perry’s camouflage campaign cap, and held guns with his fellow MAGA upper-crusters next to a lineup of their bird kills. Are their ‘rootin’-tootin’ charades a foundation to become a good lawmaker? When a slimy old corrupt fascist like Walberg gets all excited, my alarm bells ring.
Aligning with Monroe’s corruption contingent: After being released from federal prison in July 2025, the former Chair of the Monroe County Commission, Mark Brant has also enthusiastically supported Laura Perry. Brant has mounted her large campaign banners and signs across the sprawling arrays of properties he owns throughout Monroe county, including his cannabis grow supply business, BudsHydro, which is not even located in House District 31 (photo exhibit below):
Photo Exhibit: Mark Brant put up Laura Perry signs on his properties and former properties
On May 7, 2014, during Brant’s first term on the Monroe County Commission, the state police MANTIS unit raided one of his properties in which felonious amounts of drugs were seized. That case was swept away under Monroe Prosecutor, William Nichols. It never made any news. Brant was not prosecuted until 2022 after the FBI in Ohio tracked drugs back to the same Monroe property of Brant’s that MANTIS had raided eight years earlier.
On November 25, 2014, the state police MANTIS unit also raided a property that Brandon Perry owned in which felonious amounts of drugs were seized. Perry was charged with a felony, but the case never went to trial. Brandon Perry’s defense attorney in that case was Jeffrey S. Osment, the spouse of our current Monroe County Clerk, Annamarie Osment. In 2021, Laura Perry invited all her high school students to her wedding to Brandon Perry.
On January 30, 2026, Mark Brant and Laura Perry smiled and chatted together at a signing of the “Citizens Only Voting” petition at the Monroe County Republican headquarters, hosted by Perry. Lawmakers and government officials gathered with them on that workday afternoon, including Senator Joe Bellino, Monroe County Prosecutor Jeff Yorkey, Monroe County Clerk Annamarie Osment and Jeffrey Osment, Monroe Public School (MPS) board members, Stacey Terrasi, Gary Jenkins, and Tom Heck.

Those government officials gathered in that room full of Trump campaign signs one week after the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday commemorating King’s work to expand voting rights and oppose systems of oppression. Six days earlier, Alex Pretti became the second US citizen murdered by ICE agents that month during the Trump administration’s, “Operation Metro Surge” in Minneapolis.

Michigan amendment pushed by rich Virginians: That event was advertised as, “Hosted by Laura Perry”, seeking to change the Michigan State Constitution with a “citizens only” voting Amendment. The ads were purchased by Liberty Initiative Fund, based in Virginia.
When the Michigan Bureau of Elections analyzed a random sample of signatures submitted by the “citizens only” petitioners, the initiative was disqualified because too many signatures were not from registered voters. So, it won’t be on the Michigan ballot this year.

Ads from “greedy corporations” to support Laura Perry: The first TV ad authorized by Laura Perry, she promised to, “ STOP GREEDY CORPORATIONS” – A Bernie Sanders position more than a MAGA one. That ad was followed by a wave of pro-Perry ads funded by the oil-billionaire Charles Koch, multi-level-marketing billionaire Betsy DeVos, and multimillionaire Rick Snyder. Why would greedy corporations support a candidate who promised to stop them? Those corporations must have known that Laura Perry was lying.

Part 1) No One Can Serve Three Masters
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” – from the Sermon on the Mount by Jesus in The Gospel of Matthew, 6:24 (NIV translation).
Map of Monroe Michigan overlayed with HD-31: labeled with Laura Perry’s purchases
Mapping Perry’s Interests: In the six years, since Laura Perry moved back to Michigan from California, she became a Catholic high school coach, got married, purchased over 70 Acres of property worth over two million dollars in five different townships throughout Monroe County, started at least four shell companies, opened four brick and mortar stores, became a Republican, was appointed CFO of the Monroe County Republican Party, was appointed to two municipal DDA Boards, and is now running to be a state legislator. Is that experience relatable? Does Perry have a sound basis to write sustainable laws in service to common citizens, or in self-service to her own debts, liabilities, and interests?
Master 1) The Republican Party - “merged to the right lane”: In 2018, while Laura Perry was still named Laura Durance and lived in San Diego, she donated exclusively to Democratic candidates, Gary Peters for US Senate in Michigan, Conor Lamb for US Congress in Pennsylvania, the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and the ActBlue platform. After 2018, Laura Perry did not donate to any political candidates until February 28, 2024, when she donated $120 to the Monroe County Republican Party Executive Committee.
Campaign receipts: Perry donated exclusively to Democratic outlets until 2024
All Hearts Facebook post: Perry’s first GOP donation occurred one week after this post
Laura Perry’s first donation to the Monroe County Republican Party (MCRP) occurred one week after her business, All Heart Athletics posted a photo on Facebook of coffee cups she made for the MCRP. I could not find any campaign receipt to account for that 2024 coffee cup transaction between the MCRP and All Heart Athletics.
A Change of Perry’s Principles or Opportunities: Laura Perry described how money motivated her right-wing political shift:
“I think it was growing up. It was owning my own business. It was seeing all the taxes that were coming out in my paycheck. It was having a family of my own and seeing how my tax dollars were being spent and what level of education they were receiving and what was being taught in that education system.”
In 2018, Laura Perry was already grown up. That was the mid-term elections of Trump’s first term and Perry was in her 30’s with a master’s degree. She was already a business owner of a company called “FitHavens LLC” and donated exclusively to Democratic candidates. Now, during the mid-term elections of Trump’s second term, Perry is still in her 30’s and has become a MAGA Republican candidate. Does the sudden change of Perry’s political ideology indicate a change in her deeply held values and principles, or has she always been unprincipled and just had a change of opportunities?
Opportunities Abounded: Shortly after making the Monroe GOP’s coffee cups, Republican candidate, Dale Biniecki hired Perry’s business, All Heart Athletics to make t-shirts for his campaign for State Representative. Biniecki lost, and now Perry is running for that same seat. In late July Randy Richardville’s primary campaign for Frenchtown Supervisor paid All Hearts $1,200 for shirts and hats; he lost that primary two-weeks later. In November 2024, Laura Perry posted campaign signs for Jamie Thompson outside of All Heart Athletics. At the end of 2024, less than a year after Perry’s first Republican donation, she was appointed Chief Financial Officer of the Monroe County Republican Party.

Double-Negative Data Center Signs: On January 15, 2026, Laura Perry offered free yard signs at two of her All Heart Athletics store locations to the Facebook group, Citizens Against a Dundee Data Center. Perry tagged her store’s Facebook page in that post.
Laura Perry did not personally express a position in the data center fight. Instead, she passively announced that the signs were available at her stores. The messages on those signs had double-negatives. The message of, “NO DATA CENTER” had a Ghostbusters-like symbol of a circle and slash around it. So, the message was against opposition of data centers. Did that mean that Perry was pro-data centers? Perry concluded the post with, “I’ll do my best to update here once we’re out”, but she never did so.
Perry’s Facebook post: With the double-negative, is Perry pro-data centers?
Perry’s Campaign Posts AI Content: Many of Laura Perry’s political campaign posts on social media are flagged as, “AI content”. If Perry’s actions speak louder than her AI-generated words, then she does not oppose data centers. Even a post about her AI policy, was flagged as “AI content”. Perry’s “Sunday Reflection” post, flagged as AI-content on April 26 said, “I’ve heard the criticism. I’m willing to sit at tables others won’t.” The graphic said, “JESUS SAT AT THE TABLE WITH SINNERS. HE DIDN’T SIN WITH THEM. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.” In terms of knowing the difference: Perry’s campaign page is full of photos of her schmoozing at the tables of rich, powerful, corrupt politicians, seeking endorsements to join their ranks. Those are the types of tables that Jesus knocked over in the gospels. Perry’s campaign has never shown her communing at the tables of poor, sick, refugees, or socially marginalized people that Jesus himself identified the most with.
Selection of Perry’s political campaign posts on Facebook: Flagged as “AI content”
Master 2) Laura Perry’s Businesses: Laura Perry is relatively new to business ownership, as she is to politics. Laura Perry has never sustained a business started from scratch. The first two businesses she started in California, “FitHavens LLC” and “The UP Inc” quickly failed. The UP Inc was declared as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and described as an “Educational Consultant”. In 2019, the same month it formed in California, Joe Bellino helped promote the booth for The UP Inc in Loranger Square, here in downtown Monroe at the Monroe Cares Mental Health Rally. Laura Perry thanked him for that, “a special thank you to State Rep Joe Bellino for your support in driving traffic to our booth.”
Then Perry quickly abandoned the whole enterprise. No Board of Directors was ever established, and no IRS 990 was ever filed. Due to lack of activity, the organization was administratively dissolved in 2024 by the State of California.
All Heart Athletics’ origins started in 1954 as Cook’s Taxidermy Shop, founded by Ray Cook. In 1955, the same year Disneyland opened, Cook renamed his business, Cook’s Sportland, and turned it into a roadside attraction decorated with totem poles, tepees, large taxidermy animals, canoes, and colorful strings of pennants around the building. Cook offered lots of activities on site including an indoor archery range. In 1968, Ray Cook moved to Venice, Florida and opened another Cook’s Sportland there. That one is still owned and operated by the Cook family in the spirit of the original Monroe store.
Cook’s Sportland in Monroe had several different owners over the years. In 1988, “Cook’s II”, which focused on selling school spirit wear, opened on Telegraph Road. In 2009 Laura Perry’s father became the latest co-owner and renamed the business “Rick’s Sports”. The advertisements for Rick’s Sports showed guns next to high school spirit wear. One ad showed a gunman aiming through a scope towards an off-kilter empty high school varsity jacket, as though it flung up from the shoulders of a fallen student (exhibit below). After the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012, the ads for Rick’s Sports refocused entirely on school spirit wear, without any guns.
On August 2, 2020, Laura Perry started her first business in Michigan, a shell company, L&B Perry Capital LLC, with Laura and Brandon as its two managers. Four months later, on December 11, 2020, she filed the Articles of Organization for All Heart Athletics. As the new owner, Laura Perry quickly cleared out the last vestiges of Cook’s Sportland: batting cages and taxidermy animals. Additionally, the inventory of Rick’s Sports gear like bats and balls were slowly overtaken by more inventory of school spirit wear. On October 19, 2023, Perry filed an amendment to the Articles of Organization for All Heart Athletics to declare “L&B Perry Capital is the Sole Member of All Heart Athletics LLC”.
The Capital in L&B Perry Capital: In 2011, Brandon Perry purchased a residential property in Ida for $66,150, on which MANTIS executed the search warrant in 2014. Brandon Perry sold that property on August 29, 2023 for $355,000. Two months after selling that property, L&B Perry Capital became the sole member of All Heart Athletics.
The MANTIS search: On November 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM, the state police arrived at Brandon Perry’s property in Ida and described hearing loud music and smelling strong odor of marijuana from the 1,300 square-foot pole barn. When they knocked, the music shut off, but nobody answered the door. Over the next 3 hours, a search warrant was issued. When the cops returned at 2:00 PM, to execute the warrant, they saw Perry’s associate, Carl and another suspect inside, attempting to clean up incriminating evidence. From the report:
“Upon making entry into the pole barn, [Carl and redacted] were sitting in chairs with their hands in the surrender position... Upon entering the north-west Marijuana Manufacturing Room, I noticed a small children's swimming pool filled with processed Marijuana, latex gloves, and freshly cut Marijuana plants (Property Item #9). A simular [sic] swimming pool was setting next to [Carl and redacted] upon entry. [Carl and redacted] had a vast amount of time to clean the area and conceal their participation in the processing of the Marijuana.”
The cops seized over 5 pounds of the processed marijuana from that children’s pool. They seized another 71 live plants, and 14 grams of processed marijuana. As the property owner, the cops called Brandon Perry on the phone, but he refused to go to the site for an interview. Perry also refused to give the combination for his large Cabela’s safe inside the barn. He gave the cops the contact information for his defense attorney, Jeffrey S. Osment. So, the cops called Osment. After Osment talked to the cops, Brandon Perry called the cops back and gave them the combination to his safe. Inside the safe were several 62-ounce empty Vlasic pickle jars, a laboratory scale, and the jar with 14 grams of processed marijuana.
WHO WE ARE: Today, the “About” tab on the All Heart Athletics website shows a group photo of people all wearing All Heart Athletics shirts, including Brandon Perry and Carl, the co-defendants of that 2014 MANTIS case. The photo is captioned “WHO WE ARE”:
After the 2014 MANTIS case fell apart, Brandon Perry continued to purchase more properties throughout Monroe. In 2015, he bought a house in Erie Township for $32,000. That house was originally surrounded by a rustic split rail fence, with an 880 square-foot garage accessible from the main road. Perry replaced the rustic fence with a tall solid privacy fence which cut off access to the garage from the road. Perry also replaced the garage doors with solid walls and a single person-sized steel door, which made the garage inaccessible to vehicles. Brandon Perry sold that property to his associate, John for $100,000 on December 27, 2017.
On May 4, 2020, Brandon Perry and his associate, John purchased another property in Erie Township for $10,000 along Telegraph Road next door to the Iron Coffins Motorcycle Club. They sold that property on October 24, 2025 for $349,900. Nine days BEFORE that sale, Perry’s associate John was indicted in Monroe on felony narcotics charges.
Brandon Perry is a lineman for DTE. The median salary for a DTE lineman is about $80,000 per year. Before owning All Heart Athletics, Laura Perry worked in health care staffing. In less than four years, they have spent over two million dollars just on real estate purchases. Those millions of dollars do not include all the additional upstart and overhead costs of operating multiple brick and mortar stores. They also bought a Mercedes van and fully wrapped it in All Heart Athletics logos and a vanity “ALL HRT” license plate, which sits unused most of the time behind one of the stores.
The unceremonious opening of Petersburg Self Storage: On January 16, 2024, Laura Perry and Brandon Perry purchased their most expensive property to date, the site of the former “Space Station Mini Storage” facility in Summerfield Township for $855,000. That was one month after they purchased their 3rd All Heart Athletics property in the City of Monroe for $604,000, which would not open for a year and a half. Unlike All Heart Athletics, the new Petersburg Self Storage business never opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony or fanfare. The Facebook page for that business was created on April 25, 2024 which today has amassed 10 followers. There have been no posts to that page since December 14, 2024.
The Petersburg Self Storage units are located within a gated area towards the back of the property. For customers to reach that gated area, they must pass by a private residential area at the front of the property. The private residence includes a 4,830 square-foot private pole barn. That private barn is larger than any of the site’s other buildings housing the commercial storage units. It is also three times larger than Perry’s old pole barn that MANTIS searched in 2014. The sign for The Space Station used to say, “OWNER RESIDES ON SITE”. As the new owners, the Perry’s do not reside there.
The young couple who moved into that residential space at Petersburg Self Storage, have publicly posted about it on social media. Though, as private citizens, I will only refer to one of those tenants, Nick, who was originally from the Lansing area. On February 25, 2025, Nick was indicted on two felony charges in the 30th Circuit Court – Lansing:
CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONDUCT - FIRST DEGREE (PERSON UNDER THIRTEEN, DEFENDA
CRIMINAL SEXUAL CONDUCT 2ND DEGREE PERSON UNDER THIRTEEN
As far as I can tell, Nick appears to still live at Petersburg Self Storage, which is located across the street from Summerfield Jr & Sr High Schools. There is a pavement marking for that school zone right in front of the sign for the storage facility. Laura Perry’s campaign banner is on the other side of the driveway to that facility (exhibit below).
When business owners become lawmakers: That should automatically prompt ethical evaluations. Will that prospective lawmaker use their business to amplify their political campaign? Or would that lawmaker use their government position to enrich their business? That is what the “two masters” verse from Jesus warned about in the Sermon on the Mount.
One-Click Bribing: Laura Perry’s financial disclosure does not show dollar amounts for her income, assets, or liabilities. For high-security government jobs, having a history of misusing drugs or alcohol, or having a bad debt-to-income ratio are reasons to deny a security clearance. Having a lot a debt makes people more susceptible to bribery. So, it would be important for Michiganders to know how deep in debt Laura Perry is before deciding if she can be trusted with such a powerful government job.
If Laura Perry becomes an elected lawmaker, then her businesses will be like a billboard for bribers seeking to influence legislation, or to gain other advantages in the state government. If an honorable candidate wanted to remove all doubt in service to their constituents, then they would pick a lane and not own any businesses while campaigning to be a legislator. Especially if their businesses have a nexus to the government, as Perry’s businesses do. Perry’s business is a vendor to the state Department of Corrections, to the Monroe County government, and to several local municipal governments.
All Heart Athletics - vendor to Frenchtown Township government: On March 19, 2024, just a few weeks after Laura Perry made her first donation to the Monroe GOP, two members of the Monroe GOP who were also members of the Frenchtown Charter Township Board, Julie Ellison and Gary Klemz made a motion to purchase $1,858 of baseball/softball equipment from All Heart Athletics (exhibit below). Another Frenchtown Trustee at that time, Christiaan Carlton was the Treasurer of the secretive men’s-only, Monroe Club, which is made up of powerful business and government officials throughout Monroe.
All Heart Athletics - vendor to L.M.R. Fire Department: In late-October 2025, Justin Winser of the London, Maybee, Raisinville (LMR) Fire Department donated to Laura Perry’s campaign pheasant hunt fundraiser. A week and a half later, All Heart Athletics announced they made embroidered clothes for the LMR Fire Department (exhibit below):
All Heart Athletics - vendor to City of Monroe government: In December 2024, a few weeks after Laura Perry became the CFO of the Monroe GOP, the City of Monroe purchased $15,361.25 in clothing from All Heart Athletics. On February 3, 2025, the Monroe City Council appointed Laura Perry to the city’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) board. Days after that board appointment, the city disbursed another $9,678 to All Heart Athletics for developing online clothing stores for city employees and name plates for the city council. On June 12, 2025, All Heart Athletics held a big ribbon cutting ceremony for their 3rd store, which was attended by the Mayor and one City Council member, about a week later, the City paid All Heart Athletics another $6,868 for city logo wear for employees. To date, the City of Monroe has disbursed $50,696.55 to All Heart Athletics. The All Heart Athletics store in downtown Monroe is located about 160 feet down the sidewalk from the secretive Monroe Club building.
All Heart Athletics - vendor to Monroe County government: On August 21, 2024, one month after Randy Richardville’s campaign for Frenchtown Supervisor paid All Heart Athletics $1,200 for shirts and hats, the Monroe County Government paid All Heart Athletics $2,308 for – unspecified. At that time, Randy Richardville was the Vice Chair of the County Commission. The Chair of the Commission, Mark Brant had been convicted of a felony five months earlier but still had not resigned. Mark Brant did not resign until October.
In 2025, Brain Lamour became the new Vice Chair of the Monroe County Commission. Laura Perry owns her own print shop, yet in May and June in 2025 Perry’s campaign spent $859.93 at Brian Lamour’s print shop instead of her own print shop.
Jeff McBee, the Director of Human Resources for the Monroe County government, is also a director of the secretive men’s-only Monroe Club.
Master 3) Entanglements in Schools: The ethical conflicts of interest between Laura Perry as a campaign vendor, government vendor, and prospective legislator worsen when accounting for her entanglements in schools.
Laura Perry is a coach at St. Mary Catholic Central High School (SMCC). The Privacy Policy on the SMCC website states:
“SMCC may share student images, work, or achievements for educational or promotional purposes in accordance with our media release policies. Parents and guardians may choose to opt out of the use of student likenesses by contacting the school office.”
Laura Perry’s campaign website, with its ever-present “Donate” button, features multiple group photos of her students going about their school days at SMCC with herself as their school authority figure. Perry repurposed those photos to solicit donations for her political campaign. Does that comply with SMCC’s media release policy?
In May, Laura Perry also posted a group photo of her SMCC high school soccer students to her campaign Facebook page describing that those students lost a game.
Perry hires her students as interns for her private business: There is a promotional video at the top of the front page of the All Heart Athletics website featuring an intern wearing an SMCC varsity sports jacket. Consider all the ethical conflicts on display: A student of Perry’s, employed by Perry’s business for academic credit, wearing a product Perry sold covered in school logos in a promotional video for Perry’s business.
I could not find anything on the All Heart Athletics website or social media pages to explain their internship program. How do students from other high schools or colleges apply for those positions? Does Perry only hire her own students for those internship positions? Ethically, educators are required to avoid multiple relationships with their own students.
Giving the belt to school children: The Monroe County Business Alliance, formerly known as the “Chamber of Commerce” did a promotional gimmick in 2025 with an “Extraordinary Partner Belt”, designed in the style of a boxing trophy belt. In April 2025, one month after Perry launched her political campaign, All Heart Athletics received that belt. For a promotional business photo, Laura Perry brought that belt to her job at SMCC high school and had her students hold up the belt for a group photo to promote Perry’s private business (exhibit below):
The Michigan Code of Education Ethics: The 9-page guide published by the Michigan Department of Education is the prevailing ethical guide for school officials in the state. The ethics are common sense, but as we see, not all school officials abide by them:
“Demonstrates responsibility to oneself as an ethical professional by: Avoiding the use of one’s position for personal gain and avoiding the appearance of impropriety”
That one is obvious, right? Laura Perry has gone way beyond an “appearance” of impropriety, she’s explicitly used her position as a school official for personal gain. There are so many points throughout this Code that make me suspect that its authors could never have conceived of a school official being as ethically conflicted as Laura Perry is.
“Respects the rights and dignity of students by: Avoiding multiple relationships with students which might impair objectivity and increase the risk of harm to student learning or well-being or decrease educator effectiveness;”
Laura Perry constantly puts her students in awkward positions, through multiple relationships. As we saw, Perry hired her student athletes as interns at her personal business, and had them pose for photos and videos to promote her business, and posts those images of her students at school on her political campaign and business pages.
Perry invited her students to her wedding: In 2021, Laura Perry told the Monroe News that her students “begged” to join her wedding. Why would her students even know about her wedding? Instead of unloading their personal lives onto students, school officials should focus on listening to and serving the needs of their students. Violating that boundary was unethical, because it put students in awkward positions. Did any students feel left out who wanted to go to Perry’s wedding too, but were denied an invitation? Did any students NOT want to go to Perry’s wedding, but felt an academic obligation to buy a wedding outfit to go to their school authority’s wedding? Ethical boundaries were an option for Perry.
Perry pushed, politicized, and profited off TPUSA at MCCC: In September 2025, Laura Perry introduced two students who became the founding President and Vice President of the Turning Point USA (TPUSA) club at Monroe Community College (MCCC), to the faculty member, Barry Kinsey, who agreed to become the founding club advisor. The student who became the TPUSA Vice President was a high school soccer player at SMCC in 2022 while Perry was the coach. Barry Kinsey holds several positions throughout Monroe as the Director of Workforce Development at MCCC, as an elected government Trustee of LaSalle Township, and as a member of the secretive men-only Monroe Club.
Check out the ethical conflicts of interest on display in that May 23 photo posted by Barry Kinsey. They were on SMCC high school grounds, where Laura Perry worked. Laura Perry wore a shirt promoting her political campaign. Kristy Svatek-Whitson, a current MCCC Trustee posed with those MCCC students, wearing a hat promoting Perry’s political campaign and a shirt promoting her own political campaign for Drain Commissioner. Kinsey’s post linked to MCCC’s TPUSA club page, along with both political campaign pages for Perry and Svatek-Whitson.
In October 2025, the TPUSA club sought to make t-shirts for their members. MCCC’s policies required revisions to their draft t-shirt design. The student club President sent a message to Perry’s political campaign email address about that design problem. Then Perry switched to her business email address to forward that same email thread to her employee at All Heart Athletics with directions to make those design revisions (exhibit below):
After MCCC approved the shirt designs, the next month, on November 13, 2025 the club posted an advertisement for shirts on their Facebook and Instagram pages. Only three of the products in the ad were for the approved designs for the TPUSA club at MCCC. Twelve other products in the ad were for other unapproved Turning Point USA products. Turning Point USA has their own online store page, but the link in the advertisement did not go to that. Instead, it went to a temporary store page created by All Heart Athletics, which expired after 3 days. The bottom of that advertisement showed Laura Perry’s business email address, and the URL for the All Heart Athletics website (exhibit below):
On November 22, 2025, the Monroe Republican Party held their annual fundraising dinner. That annual event was formerly known as the Lincoln Day Dinner. In 2025 the event was renamed the Charlie Kirk Gala. Tickets were $100 each. Laura Perry and Monroe Public School Board President, Tom Heck offered to buy tickets for TPUSA club students at MCCC for that partisan Republican fundraising event, where alcohol was served.
Five months earlier, on June 23rd when Laura Perry and Tom Heck signed an extortion letter to MCCC (story in Part 2 of this report), their demands included:
“Prohibit political or social indoctrination disguised as instruction.”
“Prohibit club advisors or the College from sending communications containing or promoting events with adult or sensitive content to minors without direct parental notification and opt-in consent.”
From his MCCC email account, Barry Kinsey praised Perry and Heck’s, “gracious offer”:
You Play, I Plagiarize: On May 9, 2026, I went into the All Heart Athletics store in Frenchtown. There were no other customers inside. Almost everything on the sales floor was merchandise with school logos: hats, shirts, jackets, socks, jewelry, mugs, keychains, etc. I asked the clerk if schools get a percentage of the sales of all those products with the school branding. The clerk told me that the schools do not get any money from those sales.
On June 11, 2025, All Heart Athletics announced a new product for sale the next day at the grand opening of their store in the City of Monroe. It was a shirt with Monroe Public School branding on one sleeve, “Go Trojans”, and the other sleeve showed an illustration of a pennant with text, “YOU PLAY I PRAY” (exhibit below). In September, All Heart Athletics announced bracelets with, “YOU PLAY I PRAY” in three different school colors. The bracelets had a citation to the Christian Epistle to the Colossians, “COL 3:23”, which advised to work for spiritual rewards, not for “human masters” aka money. That verse reiterated what Jesus said, “You cannot serve both God and money.”:
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” (COL 3:23 - NIV translation)
After users on social media pointed out that All Heart Athletics stole the design of the, “YOU PLAY I PRAY” products, All Heart Athletics posted a non-apology claiming they learned about their own infringement from unnamed “wholesalers”. They described their plagiarism in virtuous terms, calling it an “honest oversight” and, “We have deep respect for the creative work and brand ownership of other small businesses”.
Does Perry’s, “deep respect” for the brand ownership of “other small businesses”, not extend to “greedy corporations” like the NFL, whose branding Perry also infringed upon? The NFL is not known for being tolerant of trademark infringements (exhibit below):
On Fridays We Forgery: All Heart Athletics has plagiarized products from other small boutique businesses too, such as shirts with the slogan, “ON FRIDAYS WE FOOTBALL”. All Heart Athletics called that stolen design, “our brand-new On Fridays We Football collection!”, as if it was their, “brand”. Nobody online called them out on it, so All Heart Athletics never posted about removing that product, nor pretended it was another, “honest” virtuous plagiarism:
“The most amazing swag table that I've ever seen!” On March 22, 2026, Laura Perry’s campaign held a “volunteer kickoff” event in Ann Arbor. Incentives for attending that event included pizza and a “Free T-Shirt”. An attendee posted a video online showing a table with the free t-shirts near the entryway. The video panned sideways to reveal another table with merchandise for sale with placards of price lists and QR codes to donate to Laura Perry. The video was captioned, “The Most amazing swag table that I’ve ever seen!” The merchandise included Turning Point USA-style “FREEDOM” logos on shirts and travel mugs, like the ones Perry sold to MCCC students in November. There were also beanies, hats, and bulbous 3D-printed chain necklaces with Perry’s campaign logos on them (exhibit below):
Laura Perry’s campaign did not report any donations from the day of that volunteer kickoff event, nor anything to explain where those 3D-printed necklaces came from.
Joe made the swag necklaces for Laura Perry’s campaign: The next month, on April 30, All Heart Athletics announced 3D-printed necklaces featuring public high school branding - a similar product to the necklaces Perry’s campaign sold.
When I went into the All Heart Athletics store on May 9, those public school necklaces were prominently on display – literally on top of a glass display case. There was a sticker on the back of the necklaces with a QR code link to a contact page for its local maker named Joe (exhibit below):
On May 13, I used the contact information from that necklace to email a question to Joe:
Good Morning Joe,
I saw the 3D printed necklaces that you made last month with the school logos for All Heart Athletics, and those looked similar to necklaces that I had seen a few weeks earlier at a campaign event which had Laura Perry's pink white and blue campaign logos, and I wondered if you made those too.
Sincerely,
Steven Meyer
One hour later, Joe replied to my email to confirm that he did make the 3D printed necklaces for Laura Perry’s campaign:
“Yes, we did.”
Why did Laura Perry, MBA fail to account for the necklaces that Joe made for her campaign?
Does Laura Perry’s campaign have two accounts, with one under-the-table account that she personally profits from?
Did Laura Perry’s campaign hide its dealings with Joe because they are aware of his bad reputation?
Why Boopac Shakur had Joe’s picture in his phone: On January 11, 2023, the late Robert Wayne Lee II, known famously in Pontiac, Michigan as “Boopac Shakur” streamed live video on Instagram while driving up to a Mobile gas station on Perry Street to confront Joe. The gas station was located across the street from Pontiac High School and Middle School. Robert was part of a vigilante team that posed as minors online to intervene, confront, and publicly report alleged child sexual predators. Some of those reports led to formal charges and convictions, but Robert’s team operated outside of any official law enforcement.
Robert’s team chatted online with Joe, under the guise of a 15-year-old girl skipping school to meet Joe at that gas station. In the chat, Joe sent a photo of himself slouching from a low angle. At the gas station, the back of Joe’s Lincoln MKZ was decorated with decals that said, “ULTRA MAGA” and “Let’sGoBrandon”. Robert knocked on Joe’s driver’s side window and said:
“Yo, Joe! Who you here to meet, dog?... You here to meet a little girl, ain’t you?... Why I got your picture in the phone?”
Before Joe drove off, Robert pulled out a large knife and repeatedly stabbed Joe’s rear driver’s side tire, which did not deflate. Robert said, “Got them run-flats, huh?” As Joe drove away, Robert threw the knife at the car, and shouted, “He a MAGA pedophile!”
Laura Perry should not be allowed to sell public school-branded merchandise with Joe’s contact information to high schoolers. Public school districts should enforce more control over their own assets, to stop infringements from reckless business owners like Laura Perry, at the literal expense of those districts, at the expense of ethics codes, and at the expense of student safety.
Why schools don’t enforce against Perry’s infringements? Monroe Public Schools (MPS) and Dundee Community Schools have the same wording in their policy manuals for the enforcement of their logos:
“Use of the name, logo, or any assets of the District, including, but not limited to facilities, technology, or communication networks, is prohibited without the specific permission of the superintendent.”
In 2024, before I knew anything about Laura Perry or All Heart Athletics, I was disturbed when I saw two candidates for Monroe Public School Board, John Ray and Bubba Bezeau, had stolen the MPS Trojan logo for their campaign signs. Ray was the former MPS Athletic Director, and Bezeau was a former MPS Coach:
MPS Superindifferent: I wrote an email to the MPS Superintendent, Andrew Shaw, to ask if he had given permission to use the district logo on those campaign signs. Shaw wrote back and avoided answering my question. Shaw just said the new Athletic Director, Chet Hesson was working on protecting the logos:
“Our new athletic director is assisting us by taking the lead at protecting our logo. This will take some time to go through the process but in the end, it is our hope we can license our trademark and when we do then we can hold those that do not have permission accountable. Until then it will be hard to do since the district hasn't made it a practice of stopping the use of our trademark.”
That baffled me. Why task an athletic director who has no legal credentials to do such legal work? Also, the district policy said it was the Superintendent’s job to protect the logo. Andrew Shaw should not have reassigned his own ‘lead’ responsibility to someone else. I wrote back to ask if the school district had any attorneys who could do that legal work instead. Shaw did not reply. So, I brought it up at the next school board meeting.
At that meeting, Shaw pretended like the logo on the campaign signs was not actually the district’s logo. Shaw claimed the Trojan logo was not distinctive. Then Shaw finger-pointed to the chamber’s TV monitors which featured the school district’s coat of arms, and said, “That is extremely distinct”.
In May this year, I sent a follow up email to Andrew Shaw and Chet Hessen to ask if any progress had been made on trademarking the logos, and if the Superintendent would start upholding the district’s own policy yet. Neither of them replied to me.
In August, Joe Bellino mounted a new campaign sign for Tom Heck for Monroe Public School Board. The sign featured defaced versions of both the Trojan logo, and the “extremely distinct” district coat of arms.
The motto under the coat of arms was defaced to read, “WHERE YOUR CHILD SCUCCEEDS”. On August 12, I sent another email to Andrew Shaw about the worsening problem. Shaw sent a dismissively vague reply to me on August 14th:
“Hi Steven,
Thank you for reaching out this has been addressed.
Take care,
Andy”
That same afternoon, Tom Heck posted a comment on his campaign Facebook page:
“There is quite a bit of noise on FB about the signs. Just to clarify: the signs DO NOT violate any MPS policies and DO NOT violate any state election rules. The scrutiny on the signs has identified a spelling error by the printer, I will be covering up that spelling error on the signs rather than ordering new signs.”
Blaming the printer? As if the “spelling error” was the problem, and not Heck’s theft of government assets for his political campaign. According to the plain language of the MPS policy, the only way that Tom Heck’s signs were not a violation, would be if the Superintendent, Andrew Shaw gave Heck “specific permission” to use the school district’s logos and assets on those signs. If so, that would be outrageously corrupt for everyone involved.
So, it is no wonder how Laura Perry also gets away with devoting the face of her business towards infringing upon public school district assets.
No One Can Serve Three Masters: The Colossians verse on Laura Perry’s merchandise instructed to not serve, “human masters” - “You cannot serve both God and money.” Perry’s business website shows what she serves under her PHILOSOPHY: “Tradition Begins Here”, which is reiterated under her VISION: “Tradition truly begins here as we bring our client's visions to life.”
So, Laura Perry treats tradition as a transactional product. Unguided by any vision or philosophy of her own, Perry is steered by those of paying customers. Perry’s philosophy and political values are both driven by selfish money opportunities. “you will be devoted to the one and despise the other...” So, in Part 2, we will explore what Laura Perry despises.
Part 2) Three Fingers Pointing Back
“Let’s put it to a vote. All right? Who’s for Eva Braun here? Who wants to burn books? Who wants to spit on the Constitution of the United States of America? Anybody?! All right. Now, who’s for the Bill of Rights? Who thinks freedom is a pretty darn good thing? Come on! Come on! Let’s see those hands! Who thinks that we have to stand up to the kind of censorship that they had under Stalin?!” – Annie Kinsella, a character from the movie Field of Dreams (1989) responding to parents who were trying to ban books at a school board meeting
Finger-pointing at Monroe County Community College (MCCC)
Laura Perry presented an extortion letter to MCCC: At the June 23, 2025 Board of Trustees meeting, Perry presented an extortion letter with four absurd and burdensome demands. If the college agreed to those demands, then the Republican signatories would withhold more attacks, but still not support the upcoming millage election to fund maintenance and improvements to the college (full transcript of Perry’s comments):
“Ladies and gentlemen, board, thank you for the opportunity to speak. My name is Laura Perry. I am the Chief Financial Officer of the Monroe County Republican Party, and I respectfully request that this letter be formally entered into today’s meeting minutes.”
“The Monroe County Republican Party Executive Committee Officers, along with the additional signatories of State Senator, Joe Bellino, State Representatives Jim DeSana, Will Bruck, and Jamie Thompson, along with County Commissioners, Jay Heinzerling, Brian Lamour, David Swartout, Greg Moore, and Henry Lievens, of the attached letter, will not consider offering support for the Monroe County Community College upcoming millage proposal, unless the concerns outlined in the letter are addressed.”
“These concerns include violations of student safety protocols, inappropriate communications with minors, and failures in academic and club oversight. The college’s public finding [sic] – public funding must reflect this commitment to transparency, accountability, and alignment with the values of this community.”
“If the community college responds with decisive action, and written confirmation of reforms, we will not publicly oppose, nor actively campaign against the millage. We urge the board and the administration to take these concerns seriously and demonstrate leadership in resolving them.”
“Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.”
There was no good option for the college in that threat. Despite all their burdensome demands, the Republicans offered no option of support for the millage. The only offer to the college was to obey all their demands, and in exchange, the Republicans would stop attacking the millage, but still not support it. That was not a civilized negotiation. That was political extortion. The Republicans signed the letter using their elected government titles.
Perry / Mason Moment: Less than two months before Laura Perry presented that extortion letter, the Chair of the Monroe Community College Board of Trustees, Aaron Mason donated to Laura Perry’s campaign kickoff event (exhibit below):
Aaron Mason explained to me about his donation to Perry:
“For context - I didn’t even know Laura before May of 2025. I donated $100 to her campaign in April 2025 because I saw that she was the only republican that had articulated the correct legislative path to obtain the policy outcome they wanted (through legislation in Lansing).”
During the June 23, 2025 trustee meeting, after Perry presented the letter, the President of the College, Dr. Kojo Quartey expressed surprise that some of Monroe’s leaders who previously told him that they supported the millage, suddenly flip-flopped by signing that letter. Aaron Mason interrupted Dr. Quartey to invite Laura Perry back up to repeat her demands, make more accusations, and repeatedly interrupt Dr. Quartey too (full transcript of that exchange):
President, Kojo Quartey: “I had talked to some other individuals, some leaders in the community. And there are a couple of names on here, individuals who I had talked to who were in favor – WERE – and I underscore that word – WERE in favor of our millage, but I see their names on here also at this point. So, I am not sure exactly what having their names on here means. I – [interruption]”
Chair, Aaron Mason: “So, we don’t know if - When I asked, before you get there, when I asked, like, some would support it, some would just not oppose it, um, but I can let you answer that, Laura, because I don’t want to presume too much, I’ve got my own questions, as well.”
Laura Perry: “So, the individuals on that letter will support the millage, or will not oppose it, if action is taken on all of those items, and that it is addressed with the public and addressed with us. So, that is what we’re asking for to support the millage, or not oppose it. And it was my understanding that people from the board, yourself included, were going around saying that the Monroe County Republican Party were supporting the millage, but we want to have answers to those four items that are on that letter, and we feel that is very important.”
Dr. Quartey: “Okay. So, it’s not a back and forth. But I can state categorically here, unequivocally that I have not said the Republican Party is supporting the millage anywhere.”
Laura Perry: “That is not information that I have from some of the commissioners that are on that letter. And we wanted to work with you to resolve those issues so that we do not have to publicly oppose, or campaign against the millage. We wanna work together to make this a fine institution that supports the values of this community. And that’s why we’re here tonight, and that’s why we’re documenting this in a letter, so that we can work together to get this resolved. Thank you.”
Dr. Quartey: “And I think as part of our conversation last time, a few weeks ago, we were supposed to meet – Or actually still are supposed to meet – [interruption]”
Laura Perry: “We will be meeting tomorrow! Yes!”
Dr. Quartey: “Tomorrow morning to discuss some of this. And so, I am – frankly – Um, shockprised [sic] to get this before our meeting tomorrow. I thought some of this was to – [interruption]”
Laura Perry: “Well, we think it’s important the Board of Trustees has all this information, as we - you know, work towards making that decision whether or not to support this millage moving forward. And we think that by letting them in on this process, they can be a part of it. Um, so the community’s aware of it, and that we can address these really important issues, and again, make – make the decision to move forward as a community. Thank you.”
MCCC’s response to GOP extortion demands: On July 7, 2025, Dr. Quartey sent a reply to the Republicans. The reply explained how many of the demands were things that the college had already done, such as keeping students safe, that the college’s accreditation agencies assure that curriculum is free from “social indoctrination disguised as instruction”, and the college does investigate all formal allegations of misconduct. Dr. Quartey also noted how there were factual errors throughout the Republicans’ letter.
My Summary of the Four GOP Extortion Demands, with Excerpts from MCCC’s reply:
Stop “ideological bias” in college courses: Their #1 demand was to, “exercise appropriate restraint, and show respect for the opinions of others.” The letter didn’t even allege that any such violations occurred by any MCCC officials. Laura Perry and Tom Heck did not ‘scucceed’ in upholding their own demand, when they purchased tickets for MCCC students to attend a Republican fundraiser. Also, Tom Heck as a School Board member, has repeatedly arrived at meetings on government property in a vehicle covered in his own campaign signs and promoting a Republican fundraiser (exhibit below):
From Dr. Quartey’s reply letter: “We agree. MCCC does not permit partisan political or social indoctrination on our campus.”
Investigate vague allegations of an unnamed professor grooming minors: The Republicans did not name any offender, nor specify a date - a year - nor even a broad timeframe when any alleged wrongdoing occurred. They demanded an “Immediate third-party investigation with full transparency of findings”. That would be harmful if any real abuse occurred because “full transparency” would identify victims. Why demand “full transparency” from others, if the Republican Party was not honest or confident enough to name an offender in their own allegation?
From Dr. Quartey’s reply letter: “I must stress this point: if you have any evidence of “grooming, emotional manipulation, (or) a serious breach of professional and ethical boundaries” I implore you to urgently send that evidence to my attention.”
Censor and investigate adult subject matter at college that minors might see: It is bogus to act offended that minors might be exposed to adult content after their parents enrolled them in adult-level courses at a college.
From Dr. Quartey’s reply letter: “College students who are also dual enrolled students admittedly may be legitimately exposed to adult or sensitive themes in a college setting, whether as part of a club affiliation or within the classroom... A parent or guardian must sign or otherwise give permission for a minor to be enrolled in college courses.”
“There are factual errors and misunderstandings throughout this section that misstate and conflate things that did and did not occur.”
Illegally oppress people that Republicans hate from using bathrooms: The Republicans failed to specify one instance of harm or inconvenience caused to anybody from trans or nonbinary students using bathrooms at the college. Their demand would ostracize those students with lesser access to public facilities.
From Dr. Quartey’s reply letter: “The College must adhere to state law, which is not in accord with this request. However, the College is unwaveringly committed to ensuring that everyone is safe in all corners of our campus (not just restrooms)”
“Respectfully, Executive orders do not automatically supersede state law. As a matter of fact, executive orders are not law.”
Presidential Executive Orders are not law: Dr. Quartey made an important point about how executive orders do not supersede state laws. That makes sense, right? From basic civics, we know that laws are made starting in Congress, not in the Executive Branch alone. In September 2025, the MCCC Board consulted with legal counsel who reaffirmed that fact. Lastly, the Monroe GOP never responded to months of requests from Aaron Mason for a legal justification of the Monroe GOP’s demands.
The next day Perry “and her team” filed a complaint to the sheriff against MCCC: The college cabinet met with Laura Perry on June 24, 2025. Those proceedings were described in a memo from October 2025 by the cabinet to the Board of Trustees:
“On the June 24, MCCC met with MCRP to discuss their concerns and the way it was presented to the Board and the public. There were four concerns, all of which the College addressed. Laura Perry and her team stated they would be satisfied if we met “80%” of their concerns/demands.”
Perry’s “team” in that meeting included Tom Heck and Holli Vallade. According to that MCCC memo, Laura Perry was swayed by the college, but Heck and Vallade held her back:
“At this final meeting with the MCRP, Laura Perry asked her colleagues, Tom Heck and Laura Vallade [sic – Holli Vallade], a question seeming to suggest that they were satisfied with the responses to Issues 1,2, and 3; they asked her to hold off on that. It was immediately after this meeting that they went to the Sheriff’s office to file a complaint against the college.”
Perry’s “team” went to the Sheriff with their allegation about an MCCC professor grooming minors. As the MCCC memo described:
“After one of our meetings, the MCRP chose to file a charge against the College with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department. After investigating, the Sheriff’s Department exonerated MCCC. In other words, no violations were found.”
Aaron Mason deleted Perry’s contact after her campaign became “politically opportunistic”: After donating to Laura Perry’s campaign in April, and appearing to help Perry throughout that June 23rd Board meeting, Aaron Mason broke ties with her. Mason emailed Dr. Quartey in October 2025 describing his frustration with Perry and Joe Bellino:
“Laura Perry stated to me in a text on June 26th, “Bellino is working on an attorney out of Lansing for a legal opinion”. Bellino did not deny this work being done when I mentioned it in a July 1st conversation with him when I reached out to him to express to him that he needed to get legal counsel regarding the June 23rd letter. Where is their legal opinion? It is 3 ½ months later.”
I submitted a FOIA for the messages between Aaron Mason and Laura Perry, and he claimed that he no longer has those texts, because he deleted her contact:
“I don’t have any texts between Laura Perry and I. At some point when her campaign became (what i would call politically opportunistic at the expense of the college) I even deleted her as a contact.”
Aaron Mason was asked to sign extortion letter, and board sought legal counsel: During the June 23rd meeting, Mason showed some foreknowledge of the extortion letter. At the next meeting on August 7th, Mason was apologetic during his opening comments. Mason made a motion for the board to seek legal counsel about the letter. That motion passed unanimously. Then Mason revealed that he had been asked to sign that letter too:
“It’s been an emotional distress. Some of these people I would call friends. I was personally asked to sign a letter that I had parts paraphrased to me, and it doesn’t make sense to sign a letter that’s gonna be presented to the board. My recommendation was whatever you’re getting together, go to Kojo first before coming to the – the Board of Trustees, because once you do that, your action is already done. It doesn’t make sense to me. That did not occur.”
“They came to the meeting. I didn’t know the full context of it. When I saw Item 4, I’m like: I’ve been talking about this for a year! [Mason laughed] Like, can’t you just at least get to objective truths. I believe in objective truths. Um, to the – you know, it gets political. I don’t want to get there, but there is objective truth in what was put into law in 2023. And I think there’s a way to figure out what the difference is. Um, but I think – Um, you know, I don’t want to characterize it that way. I – I don’t want to ramble on any more, but these are things that occurred in the background, as Chair.”
Legal counsel did not alleviate any of Mason’s concerns: At the September 22nd board meeting, Aaron Mason described his discussions with the college legal counsel about the extortion letter (exhibit below):
Aaron Mason filed a complaint to the Michigan Attorney General: On October 8, 2025 Mason filed a 6-page complaint - as he repeatedly stressed – was done in his INDIVIDUAL capacity. Mason focused on the offenses by James Desana (HD-29), Holli Vallade, and Tom Heck. Mason grouped all the other offenders as part of the broader Monroe County Republican Party Executive Committee. Laura Perry’s name was only mentioned once, as part of the overall list of signatories of the June 23rd letter.
Four items in Mason’s complaint (quoted in green text), followed by my summary of each:
“Misconduct in Office & Conspiracy to Commit Misconduct in Office”
The Republicans’ demand to violate students’ civil rights was unlawful by targeting trans and nonbinary students to have lesser access to public resources and accommodations at the college. Government officials committed misconduct by demanding the college violate state law.
“Extortion & Conspiracy to Commit Extortion”
Mason described the Republican demands as threatening, especially coming from state lawmakers with power over funding mechanisms for the college beyond the millage. The coercive demands for the college to commit acts against the law and against the will of the college, was classic political extortion.
“Conspiracy to Commit Open Meeting Act Violation of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners”
The five County Commissioners who signed that letter comprised a quorum majority of that public body. Therefore, their deliberations about that letter were subject to the state Open Meetings Act. That letter was never publicly announced, never publicly deliberated upon, and never documented by the County Commission, as required by law. Aaron Mason confirmed that the Chair of the County Commission, David Vensel had also been solicited to sign that letter, but he refused to do so.
“The Misconduct in Office, Extortion, and the Open Meeting Act Violation were the unlawful object of a conspiracy.”
Mason reiterated that the illegal acts outlined in the previous items, were the subject of an organized conspiracy to further those illegal acts by the signers of the extortion letter.
Perry’s defamatory posts against MCCC: In early October 2025, Laura Perry posted false and defamatory material against Monroe Community College on social media. After an intervention from the college about Perry’s false posts, Perry deleted some of them. Elsewhere, in local community groups on social media, when other people posted things supporting the millage, Laura Perry jumped into the comments to attack and defame the college some more, alleging in vague terms about the college’s, “continued failures to protect our children” (exhibit below):
Perry and Heck motioned for more GOP funds to campaign against MCCC: The MCCC cabinet sent an internal memo in early October 2025 to the MCCC Board, which described the wave of Republican attacks on the college led by Laura Perry and Tom Heck, over the previous weeks. Also, how much effort it took the college’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Joe Verkennes to correct Perry’s defamatory attacks about MCCC:
“Over the course of the last several weeks, the MCRP has done the following:
Filed a FOIA lawsuit against MCCC
Led by Laura Perry, posted several inaccurate and defamatory information about MCCC on social media. Joe Verkennes has been stalwart in correcting this misinformation.
Mounted an active “Vote No” campaign against the MCCC millage renewal
Laura Perry made a motion, seconded by Tom Heck for additional funds from the MCRP to oppose the MCCC millage renewal.”
Perry’s October meeting with MCCC: Five days after Mason filed the complaint to the Attorney General, Laura Perry sent an email to Dr. Quartey requesting another meeting at the college joined by Senator Bellino, Representative Bruck, and Tom Heck. Perry requested that meeting while continuing to defame the college on social media, pushing for more GOP funds to campaign against the millage, and organizing the formation of the Turning Point USA club at MCCC. Nothing about the meeting request was in good faith.
Despite all the red flags around Perry’s meeting request, the college scheduled it for 2:30 PM on October 17, 2025 with Dr. Quartey and the cabinet. The cabinet described how badly it went in a February 5, 2026 memo to the MCCC Board of Trustees:
“Meeting on October 17, 2025 with Cabinet, Joe Verkennes, Laura Perry of the Republican Party, Senator Joe Bellino, and Representative William Bruck.
BOT Chair Mason, was invited but chose not to attend.
Laura Perry requested the meeting to discuss what was being taught in one of the business classes and the early childhood class. Joe Verkennes asked that she take down her inaccurate posts about MCCC, which she did. Perry said that students have been going to her with complaints. President Quartey said that students should be going to the college with their complaints, not to an outside party. Joe Bellino made a comment that he loved Kojo and thought highly of him but he needed to go. Joe Bellino stated that the millage will fail, and when it fails, he would do everything in his power to get rid of Kojo Quartey. He stated that he has a problem with leadership. When questioned who was “leadership?” Bellino did not quickly respond. He did say that he did not know why the HR Director would negotiate a contract with faculty. “Why would we not use attorneys?” L. Torbet responded that the last faculty contract was negotiated before the expiration date without an attorney. Will Bruck stated that his concern about the millage was simply tax reduction.”
My tangent on broken trustees, Joe Bellino and Will Bruck: State Representative, William Bruck and State Senator, Joe Bellino began their political careers as MCCC Trustees. So, their attacks on MCCC were more nefarious betrayals towards that institution of their own making, and the institution that launched both of their political careers.
Bruck shifted demands and misused state resources to sway local election: One hour BEFORE that October 17th meeting, at 1:19 PM Bruck posted another letter with entirely new reasons why he opposed the MCCC Millage. Bruck’s new letter was printed on official Michigan House of Representatives letterhead, featuring the State Coat of Arms. That’s a problem because state government resources are not to be used for anything unrelated to state business (per the Standing Rules that Bruck voted for - MI House of Representatives):
“A Member shall not convert for personal, business, and/or campaign use, unrelated to House business, any supplies, services, facilities, or staff provided by the State of Michigan. This includes, but is not limited to, telephones, telecopy machines, computers, postage, and copy machines.”
The MCCC Millage was a local county-election; it was not on the state government agenda. So, it was a violation of those standing rules and William Bruck’s role as a State lawmaker to use state government assets to influence a county-level election.
Bellino’s traditional value of oppressing kids: In August 2022, Joe Bellino’s Senate campaign sent out mailers attacking children (photo below):
“Joe will never back down to the woke mob. He’s unashamed to take a stand for the values that built our country. He’s working to stop left wing absurdity like transgender boys competing against girls in high school sports.”
That mailer likely inspired a question from Joe Bellino’s opponent for the Senate seat, Katybeth Davis. She submitted the question to a radio broadcast on October 30, 2022, and it was read to Bellino by the host and future County Prosecutor, Jeff Yorkey:
“If Joe has his way, and puts through a law to ban trans kids from various school activities, how does he expect that to be enforced? How does he want schools to verify kids’ genders, and categorize which kids are trans, and which kids are cis genders?”
Joe Bellino uses women’s bathrooms “all the time”: Over the course of the broadcast, Bellino never answered Davis’s question about how schools would ever enforce such a gender ban. Yorkey followed up to ask the question again. Then Bellino, who embraces the nickname “Babe”, avoided answering it again, but revealed that he personally uses any bathroom he wants at the Michigan State House:
“So, in the Michigan State House, every floor in my building has two bathrooms with a man and a woman on it, in the corner. Every floor has got two bathrooms. I use them all the time cause nobody uses them. I just go in there. I flip that it’s being occupied, and I use it. I got no problem with that. Nobody would have a problem with that.”
If Joe Babe had any principles, his admission of using the women’s restroom at the Capitol “all the time”, would mean that he would not object to trans women using women’s restrooms either, but Bellino has no such principles:
“I would have a problem with a man that became a woman going into the woman’s room. I would have a real problem with that.”
In that same moment, Bellino began to sputter and admit to his own ignorance. It was as though Bellino had never given the topic any thought before. Absent any “woke mob”, just his own addled brain seeming to process through the topic for the first time, Joe began to “back down” to himself:
“I would have a problem with that. Especially grade – you know, young kids, or high school, or college that - I – It’s just - It’s just, I can’t grasp it. No. It’s probably my fault - my problem, because I can’t grasp it with my brain, and – and embrace it like I do the love of Jesus Christ. Someday I will, but I’m not there yet.”
Joe Babe’s female drag persona, “Josephine”: Perhaps while Bellino struggled to, “grasp it with my brain”, he reached towards a faint joyful memory of himself at 21 years old, performing in female drag as “Josephine” upon the Cantrick Junior High School stage in the musical, Sugar (exhibit below).
Consider Bellino’s polarized positions over the decades; his expression of gender freedom in 1980 as a real “babe” to the cheerful sounds of applause, against his oppressive politics of 2022 to the lonely ceramic sounds from the women’s bathroom at the Capitol. Perhaps that vast internal gulf caused the dissonance in Bellino’s brain: “I can’t grasp it.” – As the character Osgood Fielding said in Sugar: “Well, nobody’s perfect.”
Joe Babe finally did “grasp it” for a moment: Shortly after Bellino was elected to the Michigan Senate, on March 1, 2023, he finally did either, “grasp it” for a moment or, “back down to the woke mob” – Whatever the case, Bellino voted “Yea” on the passage of Senate Bill 4, which codified the protection of gender rights in the state Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act – “Yea”, indeed. It was a brief happy moment, followed by years of raving hate from the Monroe County Republican Party attacking those civil rights.
Bellino’s flip-flop... flip...: In early-October 2025, after signing the extortion letter, Bellino surprisingly mounted signs supporting the MCCC millage. Bellino owns a vacant lot, two blocks north of downtown City of Monroe where he displayed a large sign on heavy steel stakes, “VOTE YES MCCC MILLAGE RENEWAL”. Then Bellino and Bruck met with the MCCC cabinet on October 17th, and Bellino replaced that sign with an even bigger sign opposing the millage, “VOTE NO! No $ for MCCC LOWER YOUR TAXES” (Exhibit below):
Gender Revile Party: The 2023 amendments to the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, which Joe Bellino supported, became effective in Michigan law on February 13, 2024. So, various public buildings throughout the state put up signs near bathrooms and locker rooms to inform and assure people about their compliance with the law.
That is a standard practice with new civil rights laws. For example, after the passage of the federal Title IX Amendments of 1972, MCCC put out public notices to inform and assure the public about their compliance with those laws, which said, “Monroe County Community College does not discriminate on the basis of sex” (exhibit below):
In the 1970’s, those compliance notices did not provoke years of political backlash or extortion attacks against the college. But in 2024, the Republican Party in Monroe started years of attacks by mounting poisonously misinformative signs in yards, windows, and webpages that said, “MCCC allows MEN in girls bathrooms” (exhibit below):
The party of male sexual predators invading women’s spaces: Look at the juxtaposition of the political signs attacking MCCC next to political signs supporting the rapist, Donald Trump. Clearly, the Monroe Republican Party does not hold any principled opposition towards sexual predators invading women’s and girl’s spaces. To attack MCCC in those terms in 2024 was likely a distraction from their own contemptible support of a rapist for President that year. Their signs also advanced their agenda to violate the civil rights of a protected minority class and further defund public education.
Laura Perry pushed back against local officials’ concerns of causing community division:
“And we have local officials that were running for reelections that came to me and they said, [Perry mocked a nervous voice] ‘We need to take those signs down. You know, it's going to cause division in our community.’ And I said, ‘It's true.’ I said, ‘People are welcome to keep those signs up and we're not gonna encourage people to take them down because that's true.’ And we can have grown men that are coming into our community college bathrooms, an open campus at any time.”
Tom Heck creeped around MCCC’s women’s restrooms for three months expecting security to stop him: Tom Heck was a focus of Aaron Mason’s complaint of conspiracy against MCCC. During the 2024 election season, Tom Heck displayed a sign in his front yard that said:
“I’M VOTING
FELON
HILLBILLY
MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
2024”
Tom Heck spoke at the MCCC Board of Trustees meeting on March 25, 2024, one month after the Elliott-Larsen amendments became effective in law. Heck confessed that he had spent the past three months exploiting the ‘open campus’ to creep around, imagining himself invading the women’s restrooms in such a threatening way that he was surprised that no security or staff ever stopped or questioned him:
“M-triple-C is an open campus as are most universities across this state. And from my perspective that means the security is – is fairly lax. I’ve walked through this facility probably eight - ten times over the last three months - Never ran into a security guard. No one ever questioned why I was in the facilities, or I could have walked into any of the restrooms at that time. This low-level security along with the restroom policies, creates an environment with potential safety issues for all the students and needs to be communicated to the community and especially to the local – Uh, public schools. Thank you.”
Tom Heck described himself like a devilish trickster imp: ‘I’ve been such a naughty school board president. Is there a big muscular security guard here who can teach me a lesson?’
The millage did not ‘scucceed’, which public school to attack next? On November 4, 2025, Monroe County voters were persuaded to underfund our own community college.
As the December holiday season approached, Perry and the Monroe Republicans rode their stoked-up spite surge right into an attack on another public school.
Finger-pointing at Monroe Public Schools
In July 2025, the Michigan Department of Education produced an information guide about sexual harassment, and that guide was also posted by the Monroe Public School district.
Key points from that guide:
“Sexual harassment is unwanted sexual remarks or behaviors.”
“... spreading rumors targeted at someone...”
“... comments about students’ masculinity or femininity...”
“It is wrong and it is against the law.”
The information in that guide should help Michigan citizens, those of us in the Monroe Public School district, including school board members to identify sexual harassment, to stop it, and to understand the harm it causes to anyone subjected to it.
Sexually harassing a teen through a Title IX complaint: Five months after the publication of that guide, on December 5, 2025, a parent named Sean from Monroe filed a 5-page anti-trans Title IX complaint. There have always been bigoted parents with unhinged complaints that never see the light of day. However, Tom Heck and Laura Perry provided fuel and a big shiny podium for Sean’s unhinged complaint.
Sean’s complaint was an act of, “... spreading rumors targeted at someone...” Sean’s target was an alleged trans student, who was not named in the complaint. It would be a crime to expose anyone’s private medical information. So, where did Sean’s certainty about the sex or ‘biological’ attributes of that student come from?
There was never an allegation of any misbehavior by that targeted student. While Sean tried to frame everything in the worst light, it was still clear that student just minded their own business throughout everything. So, the cause of Sean’s grievance was simply that teen’s existence.
Sexually harassing students, to Heck with it: Tom Heck was named throughout Sean’s complaint as an outlet for abusive rumors. Parents and school staffers went to Heck for months, to spread their, “... comments about students’ masculinity or femininity...”:
“A parent also told Tom Heck, President of the Monroe High School Board that her daughter was in the stall next to the male athlete while using the restroom.”
The complaint accused the MPS Athletic Director, Chet Hesson of negligence because he complied with the law and the MPS guide by not engaging with that abusive sexual harassment. Evidently, Tom Heck was a willing outlet for that abuse:
“Following the first game, Hesson claimed in writing that he did not have prior knowledge of the athlete's sex or gender identity.
This was false, as confirmed by a staff member of the athletic community at Monroe High who came forward and provided information to Tom Heck, President of the Monroe Public School Board in a statement that Chet knew the day before the match. He was given a heads up by Skyline's Athletic Director Delsie Sissoko and was also told that media might be present.”
The complaint attempted to make harassing rumors sound proper as, “A formal verbal statement was put in”. Really? Which form was ‘put in’ to make that ‘verbal statement’?
“A formal verbal statement was put in with Tom Heck, President of the Monroe Public School Board.”
Perry’s political press conference to sexually harass a teen: On December 8, 2025, the Republicans gathered in the City of Monroe’s government plaza with its shimmering backdrop of decorative jumbo gift boxes and colorful lights. There was a light snow cover on the ground during their scheduled press conference at 2:45 PM.
Earlier that morning, at 10:09 AM, Dave Bondy, a right-wing blogger from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy was the first to announce the event on Facebook in vague terms:
“Big story dropping at 3p.m. on Title IX and a Michigan school. Find out how to get it below”
Half an hour after Dave Bondy’s vague post, at 10:39 AM, Laura Perry’s campaign posted in all caps, bracketed with red siren emojis, “TITLE IX IS UNDER ATTACK AND WE CAN NOT BE SILENT” There was an erroneous artifact in the post above the list of Republican attendees, “RUNDOWN FOR TOMORROW”. That artifact showed that the post had been drafted a day or so earlier, with the intent to post it the day before (exhibit below)
Dave Bondy’s blog story was also pre-written, and timed for release 15 minutes after the press conference started. The “SAVE Women’s SPORTS” graphic on Laura Perry’s post, was printed out on stacks of signs that were attached to the podium and held by attendees.
The attending lawmakers prioritized sexually harassing a high schooler above any other state government priorities on that Monday afternoon. They lined up wearing dark clothes, and solemn tragedy expressions as Laura Perry spoke from the podium:
“We are here today to inform the press that a parent in Monroe County has filed a formal complaint outlining grave Title IX violations and direct threats to our female athletes.”
“direct threats” is a well-defined term. Sean’s complaint did not outline or allege anything fitting to that definition, and never used the words, “direct threats”, or “threat” either. So, Laura Perry made up that lie.
“When parents from Monroe High School brought their concern to me, the facts were alarming. Ann Arbor Skyline of Ann Arbor Public Schools allowed a biological male to compete on their varsity girls’ volleyball team right here in Michigan. The MHSAA failed to confirm its own waiver process; a process that must be eliminated because it directly conflicts with federal law.”
Laura Perry has no authority in public schools. So, if multiple “parents” had real concerns about something in public schools, why would they go to Laura Perry? Those parents who “brought their concern” to Perry, were likely the same ones who put in a “formal verbal statement” to Tom Heck. Then Perry and Heck ‘scucceeded’ in turning it into another political dumpster fire.
“Today, we are calling on the US Department of Education and the Trump administration to act swiftly in this manner [sic]. The State of Michigan hides behind the unintended consequences of Elliott-Larsen and proceeds as though state law trumps federal law.”
Since when have Republicans wanted the US Department of Education to intervene in local schools? Typically, politicians who score badly on civil rights issues, like Tim Walberg are the ones who demand for the US Department of Education to be abolished, and to stay out of local schools (Exhibit Below):
In a radio interview, three months before that press conference, Laura Perry herself advocated for local control of schools:
“I am a definite fan of local control. Um, and I love what the House Republicans are doing now, which is, ‘here's your dollar amount per student. You can tell us what your needs are at the school and utilize that how you want to do that’... I think that that's a great way to give school districts the control that they need to address the needs that they have at their districts.”
In that same interview, Laura Perry also described pulling her kids out of public school to send them to private school.
“I pulled my kids - my step kids out of the public school and we moved them to a local private school because the public school was choosing to continue on policies that kept them out of the classroom.”
Tim Walberg pulled his kids out of public school too in 1983 during his first term in the state legislature. That made national news because it was an unusual move for a lawmaker to do that back then while seated on the Education committee. Walberg and Perry both exhibit contempt for public schools, and a desire for power to meddle in public schools.
What does it mean to “NOT CO-PARENT with the GOVERNMENT”?: A few weeks after the “Save Women’s Sports” press event, in January, Laura Perry’s campaign posted a photo from a local Moms for Liberty event, where Perry held a sign that said:
“We do NOT
CO-PARENT
with the
GOVERNMENT
MOMS for
★LIBERTY★”
The stars next to the word *liberty* look like asterisks, like their meaning of *liberty* is loaded with caveats.
For Laura Perry to proclaim to “not co-parent with the government”, she is deeply involved in the government. Perry is demanding the government put oppressive limitations upon the school children of other parents. So, if Perry truly does ‘not co-parent with the government’, then she should honor her own co-parenting terms of separation: Stay out of the government and back off other people’s kids.
Young woman athlete accosted by old male crackhead at “Save Women’s Sports” press event: Joe Bellino is open about how, “I went from crackhead to senator” and cites that lifelong challenge of sobriety as an excuse for why he still does bad and irresponsible things as a Senator now:
“people with my disease should never get too 'hungry, angry, lonely or tired’.
We do not think with any sense of responsibility and we do real stupid shit when we get like this. Real stupid.”
Joe Bellino’s 2022 campaign opponent, Katybeth Davis happened to be at the Monroe government plaza on the afternoon of the “Save Women’s Sports” press conference. Bellino had still never answered Davis’s question to him from over 3 years prior:
“If Joe has his way, and puts through a law to ban trans kids from various school activities, how does he expect that to be enforced? How does he want schools to verify kids’ genders, and categorize which kids are trans, and which kids are cis genders?”
Davis’s question remained sharply relevant to the day’s press event. Instead of politely approaching Davis with an answer, having given it 3 years of studious thought; that 67-year-old crackhead accosted Davis out there on the sidewalk:
None of the supposed “Save Women’s Sports” defenders nearby, jumped in to pull that old crackhead away from invading that young woman’s space while shouting and waving his fist at her either. So, clearly that event had nothing to do with protecting women.
MPS Board Meeting, the next day: Laura Perry proclaimed to the Monroe Public School Board that, “I fully understand the dynamic and the scientific differences of male and female athletes”, based upon having played co-ed soccer in middle school. Perry also lied, “In grad school, I established the varsity girl’s soccer team at Ottawa Hills.”
In grad school, Laura Perry did not establish the girls’ varsity soccer team at Ottawa Hills: On October 16, 2012, the Ottawa Hills Board of Education in Ohio voted to establish both the girls’ varsity soccer and lacrosse leagues, as only the school board had the power to do. Perry neglected to mention the lacrosse league. When those leagues were established, Perry was exactly 10 months out of grad school and about 2,000 miles away geographically. In February 2012 Perry had settled into San Diego, California and began working for a health care staffing company. Laura Perry completed her graduate school MBA program from the University of Toledo back on December 16, 2011.
For 6-years, local parents organized and pushed the Ottawa Hills school board to establish the girls’ varsity leagues for both lacrosse and soccer. The local news covered those efforts but never mentioned the name Laura Durance. If Laura Perry had any involvement, it was necessarily fleeting and unremarkable. So, it was an insulting lie for Perry to try to steal credit for that accomplishment away from the years of community-led efforts by the people in Ottawa Hills.
In grad school, Laura Perry established a reckless substance abuse habit: From January 2010 through December 2011, the only mention of Laura Durance that I could find in the news while she was in grad school, was in the Monroe News when she faced charges for possession of cocaine (exhibit below):
Possession of cocaine and driving on a suspended license at night without headlights: That Monroe News blurb was based on an incident that occurred on October 4, 2011. At 10:08 PM, a City of Monroe patrol officer saw Laura Perry’s car driving northbound on S Macomb St in the dark with her headlights off. Perry turned left onto E Front St, and the patrol officer followed her. Then the officer signaled for Perry to pull over, and she pulled into one of the parking spots on the north side of Front St, right in front the law offices of Czeryba & Godfroy, P.C. It was a serendipitous spot to pull over, because Perry ended up hiring the senior partner of that law firm, William P. Godfroy as her defense attorney in that case. To this day, that same law firm handles all of Laura Perry’s business filings in Michigan.
Laura Perry denied the officer’s assertion that her license was under suspension from a previous incident, from June 11, 2011 until December 8, 2011 (from the police report):
“R/O approached Durance and advised her of her current suspended license. Durance was adamant that her license is not suspended and only restricted. R/O requested Durance from her vehicle and she complied. R/O showed Durance the LEIN return for her record and she still denied that he [sic] license was suspended. Durance advised that she has paid the State of Michigan the first $1000.00 fee for her "drunk driving" and was currently on a payment plan for the second $1000.00 of which she has paid $75.00.”
Perry was arrested on the scene for driving on a suspended license. Then the cops found cocaine inside a contact lens case in Perry’s purse:
“Ofc. Marks located a contact lens case inside the interior of the purse. Ofc. Marks advised that when he removed the white cap from the contact lens case (item #2), he discovered it contained an partial orange straw (item #2) and a corner of a clear plastic baggie (item #2), both of which contained a white powdery debris. Ofc. Marks then removed the green cap and located a white powdery substance (item #1). Ofc. Marks then turned the items over to R/O for processing.
R/O then conducted a field test, utilizing a Reagent 904 field test kit, on the white powdery substance which resulted in a positive test results for cocaine. At police Headquarters R/O weighed item #1, white powdery substance, and notes that it is approximately 1.06 grams.”
Skid marks on Laura Perry’s clean slate: While researching that October incident, I was confused by the lack of court records that matched the charge from that newspaper clipping, or from the other prior cases that were cited in that police report. Then I figured out those court records had likely been expunged under Michigan’s 2020 clean slate law.
“very unsteady in its lane”, drunk-driving 92 MPH through Toledo: The state of Ohio does not have a clean slate law, which makes it easily to pull up the public records of the following incident. On January 31, 2010, during Laura Perry’s first month of grad school, at 12:58 AM, a Toledo Highway Patrol Officer spotted her vehicle recklessly speeding southbound on I-75, near Exit 206 (Phillips Ave/Detroit Ave). The patrol officer started pacing Perry, and clocked her vehicle at 92 MPH through a 60 MPH zone. As the officer described in the affidavit:
The officer finally pulled Perry over on the ramp for westbound I-475. She was visibly intoxicated, and the officer could smell, “a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath and person”. Perry admitted to having been drinking, but refused a field breathalyzer test. During the field sobriety test, the officer described Perry:
“started walking unsteadily until I advised her to stop. The def was unsteady on her feet once she exited her vehicle.”
Perry was arrested and transported to the Ottawa Hills Police Department for holding, about a mile and a half from where the Ottawa Hills Board of Education meetings are held. While under police detention, Perry refused a breathalyzer test again. At the bottom of the officer’s typed affidavit was a handwritten note about how it was Perry’s third driving violation in one year. Her other two violations were in Iowa.
On February 5, 2010, Perry pled “not guilty” to the charges. On May 27, 2010, Perry withdrew her previous not guilty plea, and pled “no contest”. The Judge found Perry guilty and sentenced her to a fine, a required program, a suspended license for two months except for occupational privileges. Perry was also sentenced to one year of probation.
Perry failed to comply with the terms of her one-year probation sentence, so on April 25, 2011, the Toledo court summoned Perry to a probation violation hearing.
So, those are things that Laura Perry established while in grad school.
CONCLUSION - Three Fingers Pointing Back: I tried to find the origin of the folk saying, “When you point a finger at someone, there are three fingers pointing back at you” I could not figure out where it originated from. It’s about accountability. So, its enduring popularity suggests a common impression that many people who throw around accusations, lack accountability. Let’s consider the power dynamics of finger-pointing too, like:
When a multimillionaire points a finger at a poor person, check the redness of their other three fingers.
When a politician points a finger at anyone, check if their other three fingers are clutched onto a bribe.
When you point a finger at someone, there are three fingers pointing back at you, unless you killed Inigo Montoya’s father, in which case there are four, and now prepare to die. [see The Princess Bride – 1987]
Wait, wasn’t this a finger-pointy report? What about my accountability? Fair point. My hands are folded down now, and I nod towards the Appendix/Sources section.

Dedicated to my favorite bridge:
I think a lot about the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge over the Ohio River. It spans the state line between Ohio and Kentucky. Construction started in the 1850’s between a state with open-enslavement and a state with proportionally fewer crimes against humanity for that Antebellum era. The bridge opened in 1867 after the Civil War. So, its construction persisted while the country was at war with itself. The bridge was built for foot traffic and horse carriages, but now cars drive over it. When I walked across that bridge alone, wondering about time and space, observing happy passengers on big boats float tranquilly under my feet, the bridge felt to me both ordinary and profoundly sacred.
There were difficult circumstances then, and we have difficult circumstances now. So, I like to wonder how to make good things under difficult circumstances that will stay good past our lifetimes.

July 1, 2026 – Laura Perry’s campaign Facebook page posted the endorsement from Tim Walberg. Matt Petree, the former Chair of the Monroe County Republican Party, commented on that post, “Not sure I would brag about that one.” So, Republicans also know Walberg is no good, yet they keep voting for him.
Aligning with Monroe’s corruption contingent:
June 2026 - (Exhibit) – Photos by me featuring campaign signs for Laura Perry and Jenna Morse on three of Mark Brant’s properties, and one of Mark Brant’s former properties, now owned by the Monroe County Government. I obtained a copy of the Warranty Deed signed by Mark Brant on December 13, 2022 transferring that 1.163 Acre property to the Monroe County government two days before he was indicted.
May 7, 2014 – (Michigan State Police Report: MTS-77-14) – Obtained by me, FOIA, Michigan state police executed a search warrant on the clubhouse building of one of Mark Brant’s property in Whiteford Township. They seized a huge amount of cannabis grown in that building. In the subsequent days, the police seized more cannabis material grown inside the cabins that Brant leased out specifically for that. That occurred during Mark Brant’s first term on the County Commission. Nobody was charged back then, and it was never reported in any news outlets.
March 18, 2021 – (FBI Affidavit in the public docket of US Court for Northern District of Ohio, case: 1:21-cr-00440-SL) – Special Agent described how the case in Cleveland, Ohio led back to Mark Brant’s property in Monroe County, Michigan.
November 25, 2014 – (State Police Report: MTS-210-14) – Obtained by me, FOIA. This FOIA included a large tranche of photos and other police records from the case.
July 26, 2016 - (Case: 1st District Court, 2016-164639-FY) – Brandon Perry was charged with 3 counts. I don’t understand why the indictment was filed so long after the date of the offense. Perry’s attorney was Jeffrey S. Osment. I obtained a printout of The Register of Actions from the court, which showed that the warrant was never entered on LEIN, and then Judge Jack Vitale dismissed the case. A manager at the 1st District Court told me that the file for that case does not exist because the court destroys all of them after 7 years. According to them, the only remaining court record of that case is the Register of Actions.

I did not find any other proof of Perry’s direct ties to it, and she did not claim ownership of that company in her financial disclosure.

Jesus identified with poor, sick, and socially marginalized people:
Matthew, 19:23-24 (NIV Translation) – ‘Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”’
Matthew, 25:40 (NIV Translation) – ‘“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”’
Luke, 6:20 (NIV Translation) – ‘Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”’
Jesus knocked over the tables of rich, powerful, and corrupt officials:
Mark, 11:15-17 (NIV Translation) – ‘On reaching Jerusalem, Jesus entered the temple courts and began driving out those who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves, and would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. And as he taught them, he said, “Is it not written: My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations? But you have made it a den of robbers.”’
Matthew, 21:12-13 (NIV Translation) – ‘Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. “It is written,” he said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.”’
Luke, 19:45-46 (NIV Translation) – ‘When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. “It is written,” he said to them, “My house will be a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers.”’
John, 2:13-16 (NIV Translation) – ‘When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”’

The Party of Male Sexual Predators Invading Women’s Spaces:
the rapist, Donald Trump:
June 21, 2019 – (Article) PBS Newshour, “All the assault allegations against Donald Trump, recapped”, this article summarizes some of the credible allegations of rape and sexual misconduct committed by Donald Trump since the early 1980’s, through 2013. Trump has confirmed some of these, such as his serial sexual assaults of women from the Access Hollywood tape, and his admission about invading pageant contestant dressing rooms. One of those occurrences was in 1997, when Trump was in his 50’s, and he invaded the dressing rooms of teen pageant contestants, whose ages ranged from 15 to 19 years old. - https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/assault-allegations-donald-trump-recapped
October 25, 2024 – (Article) The Guardian, “Sexual misconduct allegations against Donald Trump – a timeline” - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/oct/25/trump-sexual-misconduct-allegations-timeline
Some readers may dismiss these allegations. Both of those articles were published before many revelations from the Epstein files had been released. Also, the E. Jean Carroll case that was adjudicated in court and withstood every appeal, proved Trump is a rapist.
May 2025 – (Video) shows Perry speaking at a Hillsdale County Republican Women meeting about her role in the anti-trans/anti-MCCC signs in 2024, and how Perry pushed back on politicians who accurately explained that the signs would, “cause division in our community” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQ5x7Kbh3cY
Tom Heck creeped around MCCC’s women’s restrooms for three months expecting security to stop him:
June 2023 to October 2024 – (Exhibit by me) Image capture from Google Street View of Tom Heck making a finger gesture at the Google car. That image was blurred by Google Maps. Photo from Tom Heck’s street of a political campaign sign in his front yard for “FELON HILLBILLY”
March 25, 2024 – (Audio) Board of Trustees meeting, I obtained unedited audio of this meeting from one of the attendees who recorded it that day. I used that audio to transcribe Tom Heck’s comments. Heck’s comments were accurately reflected in the official meeting minutes from that day too. Long before I obtained the audio from that meeting, I read that account of Heck’s comments in those minutes. I expected either the minutes made his comments look worse, or that his actual comments were so much worse, and the minutes had tempered or softened what he said. So, when I finally tracked down an audio recording, I was impressed by how accurately the minutes captured what Tom Heck really said.
The millage did not ‘scucceed’, which public school to attack next?

I used that reel to transcribe Perry’s quotes, and for that attached exhibit. The reel is 4:02 long, and there is a visible edit point towards the end right as Perry introduced Sean. I have been unable to find a full video to show what else Perry said that was edited out of her reel.
Since when have Republicans wanted the US Department of Education to intervene in local schools?
Human Rights Campaign – (Congressional Scorecards) Since 2006, for the first seven terms that Tim Walberg has been in US Congress, he has scored all zeros, the worst possible score for human rights. The most recent scorecard for 2025, Walberg spiked up to a score of three out of a possible one hundred – yay, progress! https://www.hrc.org/resources/congressional-scorecard

In grad school, Laura Perry did not establish the girls varsity soccer team at Ottawa Hills:
January 2010 – December 16, 2011 – (enrolled, major: MBA - Marketing) University of Toledo. I called and spoke with UT’s Registrar’s Office on June 17, 2026 to verify Laura Durance’s degree, and dates of enrollment. I also called the registrar’s office of Upper Iowa University that same day. Both Registrar’s offices verified that information for me, which matched Laura Perry’s LinkedIn page.
February 2012 – (Experience) Laura Perry’s LinkedIn page states that she worked as a Director of Sales for Preferred Healthcare Staffing in San Diego, California at that time.
September 7, 2012 – (article) Toledo Blade: “School board delays decision on girls' sports” – This article talked about the years of work by the community, and the expert help they received from Bowling Green State University with legal analysis of Title IX https://www.toledoblade.com/local/education/2012/09/07/School-board-delays-decision-on-girls-sports/stories/201209070023

In grad school, Laura Perry established a reckless substance abuse habit:
December 7, 2011 – (Blurb) Monroe News (print edition, page 6A) Laura M. Durance – “possession of controlled substance less than 25 grams”
Possession of cocaine and driving on a suspended license at night without headlights:
October 4, 2011 – (Incident Report: MP-13539-11) Monroe Police Department. Obtained by me, FOIA. This report included extensive descriptions of the cocaine charge, and other cases from Perry’s record at the time, which don’t appear any more in Michigan’s court records. I used this report for the narrative from the cop’s perspective, and the quotes from the cop in the report.
October 5, 2011 – (Case ID: 2011-115481R-OK) Michigan 1st District Court. I obtained a printout of the Register of Actions for this case from the court, which shows the “Driving While License Suspended” charge, but does not show the possession of cocaine charge. That absence was most likely because it was automatically expunged by Michigan’s Clean Slate law.
Skid marks on Laura Perry’s clean slate:
March 31, 2011 - (Case ID: 2011-112127-ST) Michigan 1st District Court. On April 15, 2026, I requested a printout of the Register of Actions for this case from the court. This case pertained to the offense cited by the State Police on March 25, 2011. The online court docket only showed one charge, but the printout I received showed two charges. On the printout, the 2nd Charge of, “FAILED TO DISPLAY A VALID LICENSE” stated that it was a “Non-Public Charge”. That case was closed on May 24, 2011 when Laura Durance pled guilty to that 2nd Charge. The bottom of that Register of Actions printout showed another event on April 19, 2023, “CONVICTION SET ASIDE PURSUANT TO MCL 780.621” and “CHARGE MADE NON-PUBLIC” - I was puzzled by that, so I went back to the court with that printout. I told the clerk that I was curious about that, “Non-Public Charge”. That detail had excited me, because I believed the existence of “non-public” charges explained why I was having so much trouble matching court records up with other public records. So, I asked if there was a way that I could look up more cases like this one that had “non-public” charges? The Clerk at the window said they would have to check with the manager, and then the Manager came over and explained to me that printout that I received had more information on it than I should have seen. The manager said that the court could not talk to me about any non-public charges. And I replied: Good to know. Then I left. Over the years, I have received a lot of Register of Actions printouts from courts, but this case was the first and only printout that I had ever received which accidentally revealed a non-public charge.
March 25, 2011 – (Incident No. 028-0001045-11) Michigan State Police, obtained by me, FOIA. Laura Perry was pulled over for speeding, and cited for operating without a license. This offense and subsequent conviction was referenced in the October 4, 2011 Monroe Police Report. This offense occurred while Perry was still serving out a probation sentence from the court in Toledo.
“very unsteady in its lane”, drunk-driving 92 MPH through Toledo:
January 31, 2010 – (Exhibit - Statement of Facts) Ohio State Highway Patrol Officer. Most of the information in my description was taken from this cop’s statement. This document was scanned and archived in the Toledo Municipal Court docket. The statement also contained that handwritten note about Perry’s violations in Iowa.
February 1, 2010 – (Case: TRC-10-02275-0103) Toledo Municipal Court, Charge: “DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR DRUGS”. Perry was also charged that day with “RULES FOR DRIVING IN MARKED LANES”, and “SPEED; EXCEED POSTED LIMIT UPON FREEWAY” That case docket shows Durance was summoned back for a probation violation hearing on April 25, 2011.
